If you know or only suspect that there must be more effective methods for teaching all students, you should examine or try our resources. By Subscribing to our FREE Newsletter, Effective-Educators' Today, you will receive our e-book with several of our anchor strategies for you to try.
You will receive samples of lessons excerpted from various publications available from The Literacy Connection. Used in our professional development seminars and adopted by schools, they were created to support teachers in their efforts to effectively teach word analysis, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. The content and methods are based on research in reading and language arts and on California’s Reading/Language Arts Framework. The publications include detailed, sequenced lessons and resources designed to support the thorough teaching of many ELA standards. The lessons are models that can be used with or without a core text and in all content areas. We say the methods are highly transportable and allow teachers to become responsive as they guide and support all learners. Lessons develop and are anchored on several key concepts, skills, and strategies: 1. Phonological awareness procedures are multi-sensory and kinesthetic, and integrate speech articulation. Special attention is given to the articulation of consonant and vowel sounds. All early concepts related to words, concepts of print, the alphabetic principle, phonemic awareness, blending, segmemting, rhyming, spelling of syllables, etc. are built on 9 core "procedures" that students learn to use independently. 2. Word analysis lessons integrate phonemic and phonological awareness activities with those that teach students spelling generalizations and the types of syllables. 3. Vocabulary development lessons use direct instruction and emphasize conceptual development. 4. Comprehension Skills and Strategies |
